U.K. HIV Activist Clint Walters Dies

HIV-positive AIDS activist Clint Walters died at his home in Clapham, London, on April 4 from a heart attack, PinkNews reports. He was 31.

Walters, who was profiled in the March 2009 issue of POZ, was diagnosed with HIV when he was 17. Since then, he dedicated himself to raising HIV/AIDS awareness among fellow young, gay men in the United Kingdom. In 1999, he founded Health Initiatives, the only HIV organization in the United Kingdom catering specifically to young people. At the time of his death, he was working to open London’s first weekend HIV testing center for young people.

When Walters spoke with POZ in early 2009, the activist said he looked forward to passing Health Initiatives on to London’s young, up-and-coming HIV advocates.

“It’s the new generation that needs to run the project and move it forward,” Walters told POZ. “Hopefully they can build upon what I’ve started and make it better.”
