ADAP Gets Additional $25M From Federal Government
The Department of Health and Human Services will provide an
additional $25 million to supplement the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)
until the end of the fiscal year on September 30, The New York Times reports. The funding, which will help buy HIV medications,
is in response to advocacy efforts on behalf of about 2,100 people on ADAP waiting
lists in 11 states as of July 1 and thousands more people in states that have
cut back on their ADAP coverage. Although advocates say the funding will help,
they were seeking a total of $126 million.
