AHF Seeks Health Commission for City of Los Angeles
The Los Angeles–based AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) supports the creation of a city health department that’s separate from the county health department, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. A coalition of labor, business and health groups oppose the AHF proposal, which is on the June 2014 ballot. AHF seeks more “accountability,” but opponents believe breaking up the health department into two would endanger public health. AHF has softened its stance as a result, now willing to urge a “no” vote if the city creates a 15-member health commission to oversee the current health department.
