A group of doctors and medical providers employed by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) are seeking to form a union with the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW), according to a statement by the group. The reasons they cite for creating a union are: to have a voice in the policies of patient care, to protect the integrity of patient care, to focus on providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy, to meet the changing needs of HIV/AIDS patients, and to restore the principle of valuing employees. AHF is the largest nonprofit HIV/AIDS health care provider in the United States and assists more than 230,000 patients in 31 countries. NUHW represents 10,000 frontline caregivers.
