Top Artists’ Valentine to Awareness
A Valentine’s Day 2008 auction of works by such prominent artists as Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Jasper Johns and Cecily Brown will benefit HIV/AIDS relief programs in Africa, the Associated Press reports (iht.com/Associated Press, 12/5).
On December 5, Sotheby’s auction house announced that it had partnered with U2 lead singer and AIDS fund-raiser Bono and New York City’s prestigious Gagosian Gallery for next February’s charity event.
More than 100 pieces—valued at more than $40 million and all inspired by Bono’s signature prevention color, red—will be auctioned. The AP reports that the proceeds will support HIV/AIDS programs in Africa conducted by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
