Calif. AIDS Doctor Pleads Guilty to Health Care Fraud

A doctor who treated people with HIV/AIDS pleaded guilty to federal charges of health care fraud committed from 1995 to 2001, The Desert Sun reports. He faces up to 50 years in prison.

According to the article, George Steven Kooshian, MD, fraudulently billed health insurance providers for medications related to HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. The providers, which included Medicare, lost about $661,000.

Kooshian admitted to billing providers for medications patients no longer received and to giving patients smaller doses of medications although he billed providers for full doses.

In one case, a patient thought he was getting intravenous immunogammaglobulin for his peripheral neuropathy. Instead, the patient received saline with vitamins.

Kooshian is scheduled to be sentenced May 11.

Ever wonder how doctors took on so many patients who could not pay anything at all? Of course, syphon from the ones who could so that everyone got help. It was all emergency, back then. Drugs bought for insured "G" who didn't need or want them, may have went to uninsured "J", who did. If you have enough ...gobulon for 4 sick guys, and 5 guys with appointments for this treatment in the big blue lounge chairs room waiting to get the treatment... then what -- and how?

In addition to having his license revoked, he should be sued for every penny the SOB has made for doing this!

He should have his licencse revoked. There needs to be an example and here it is. Give this to the media and newspapers and lets see what happens?
