Florent Restaurant
Florent was a hub of activists, celebs, downtown denizens--and POZ staff.

Showtime is developing a dark comedy series set in mid-1980s New York and starring Alan Cumming as Florent Morellet, the real-life HIV-positive owner of Meatpacking District eatery Florent, Variety reports.

The restaurant was a hub of activists, actors, glitterati, police and New York nightlife denizens. Morellet was so open about his HIV status that he posted his T-cell count on a board next to the daily specials.

For many years, the 24-hour restaurant was known as the unofficial POZ headquarters because, until 2004, POZ was located just down the street. In 2010, David Sigal released Florent: Queen of the Meat Market, a star-studded documentary honoring the restaurant and its owner, and POZ blogged about the film’s screening in New York.

Cumming stars in The Good Wife on CBS. Patricia Resnick (Mad Men) is writing the script, and Rosemary Rodriguez will direct. According to Variety, Morellet will be pitching in to guide the half-hour series.
