$1.4M in New amfAR Grants to Four HIV Cure Research Teams

A new round of grants totaling more than $1.4 million will support four teams of cure research scientists worldwide, according to a statement by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, which awarded the grants through its Research Consortium on HIV Eradication (ARCHE) program. The Case Western Reserve University team aims to develop and test a vaccine-like HIV treatment specific to each patient. The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute team will study the cells where the HIV reservoir mainly resides despite successful treatment. The team from the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Washington will explore gene therapy using stem cells as a potential cure. And the Johns Hopkins University team will build on its viral reservoir research.
