A new round of grants totaling more than $703,000 will support four teams of cure research scientists in the United States and the United Kingdom, according to a statement by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, which awarded the grants through its Research Consortium on HIV Eradication (ARCHE) program.

Paula Cannon, PhD, heads a team at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Ann Chahroudi, MD, PhD, heads a team at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Benjamin K. Chen, MD, PhD, heads a team at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. Jane Rasaiyaah, PhD, heads a team at the University College London.

Working with a team at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, headed by Jonathan Karn, PhD, the California team will study HIV reservoirs in the brain. The Georgia team will study reservoirs of SIV, the simian cousin of HIV. The New York team will study how to identify HIV reservoirs. The U.K. team will study the “shock and kill” strategy.
