Arbert Santana, an HIV/AIDS and LGBT activist,has died, according to a statement from the Latino Commission on AIDS. A nativeof New York City who recently resided in New Jersey, Santana worked in HIVprevention for 20 years. He was the founding mother of the House of Latex atGay Men’s Health Crisis, as well as the founder and president of the BallroomArchive and Oral History Project. He also worked at the commission with Latinoimmigrant men who have sex with men and transgender women in Para Ayudar, itssubstance abuse pre-treatment and prevention program.
