Asians Affected by New Disease With AIDS-like Symptoms
Dozens of people in Asia and some people of Asian descent in
the United States are displaying symptoms similar to AIDS despite being HIV
negative, The Associated Press reports. Their immune systems become damaged,
which leaves them susceptible to opportunistic infections. Researchers have not
identified a cause, but an infection may trigger the disease, which does not
appear to be contagious.
