Aurobindo Pharma Limited, a maker of generic medications, has received a patent license from the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) to make HIV meds for children, according to an MPP statement. The patent allows Aurobindo to supply meds with abacavir to the 118 countries where nearly all HIV-positive children live. The World Health Organization recommends abacavir for the treatment of pediatric HIV. An agreement with ViiV Healthcare in February allowed MPP to give abacavir licenses to generic makers.
