Hurricane Sandy Floods AIDS Residence Bailey-Holt House
The 44 people with AIDS who live at Bailey-Holt House in New York City have been temporarily relocated after flooding damage from Hurricane Sandy, Gay City News reports. The repair costs to the Christopher Street residence could range from $350,000 to $500,000. Most of the residents were still in the building during the storm because the city had not included it in the area of highest risk for flooding, which was under a mandatory evacuation order. Bailey House, the nonprofit that runs the home, is seeking donations to make repairs quickly because the accommodations the residents are currently using are unsuitable in the long term.
