BBC Educates Youth About AIDS

In preparation for World AIDS Day, December 1, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has launched a two-month awareness campaign to educate viewers about HIV/AIDS.

Today the corporation released the results of a new survey, which showed that more than half of 16- to 24-year-olds thought that HIV could be transmitted through kissing, and 77 percent said they would not ask a new partner if they had HIV before having sex.

"Levels of ignorance about HIV are at an all-time high among the age group most likely to catch a sexually transmitted infection,” said Elizabeth McKay, who is in charge of the campaign for BBC Learning.

The project begins tomorrow night with the show HIV and Me, hosted by English television personality Stephen Fry.
