Young Black Gay Men Found to Share Common HIV Risk Factors

A study examining HIV risk and testing behaviors among young black gay men has found that many of them had three common risk factors, according to an article in the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and written about in Reuters.

Those risk factors include: having sex with men who are 26 or older, having unprotected anal sex, and not having an annual HIV test. According to the article, the research team surveyed black men ages 16 to 25 in Jackson, Mississippi, who were diagnosed with HIV from January 2006 to April 2008. The 29 men selected to participate in the study self-identified as gay.

The findings were released in anticipation of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, which is February 7.

The report emphasizes that reducing HIV/AIDS cases among young black gay men requires culturally specific behavioral interventions, comprehensive campaigns to fight stigma and expanded testing programs.

Dear GOP Please notice the train is leaving the station with the majority of pro-people on board. You might consider getting the 'h|ll' off the tracks and join the rest of the nation on our positive endevour to get us out of the disasterous mess you have left us in. Don't prove the point that says "Republi_cons will cut of their heads to spite the foot in their mouth"!.....to save face...both of them!

Please get this information to the new leader of the Republican National Committee. Tell him the money the Republicans wanted taken out of the current stimulus package for STD & condoms are needed. These funds are needed NOW. President Bush dropped the ball on HIV prevention to the gay community. Times are difficult. People losing jobs. People feeling depressed and with lower self esteem. Get these programs going so we don't lose another generation of young gay men due to Political Bigotry.
