Study: 1 in 4 Canadians Wouldn’t Get an HIV Vaccine
If a vaccine to prevent HIV transmission were 100 percent
effective, only 74 percent of Canadians would get vaccinated, according to a
University of Toronto study reported by the Toronto Sun. If a vaccine were 50 percent effective, only 40
percent would be vaccinated. Researchers say the percentages are not higher
because of fears about contracting the virus from the vaccine, as well as
stigma associated with getting the vaccine in AIDS clinics and a belief among
many people that they’re not at risk for HIV.
