If a vaccine to prevent HIV transmission were 100 percenteffective, only 74 percent of Canadians would get vaccinated, according to aUniversity of Toronto study reported by the Toronto Sun. If a vaccine were 50 percent effective, only 40percent would be vaccinated. Researchers say the percentages are not higherbecause of fears about contracting the virus from the vaccine, as well asstigma associated with getting the vaccine in AIDS clinics and a belief amongmany people that they’re not at risk for HIV.
