Some HIV-positive women in Chile are being subjected to coerced or forced sterilizations, GlobalPost reports. A new study by the New York–based Center for Reproductive Rights and the Chilean nongovernmental organization Vivo Positivo has documented discrimination and sterilization without consent among some of the estimated 3,500 women living with HIV in Chile. “It’s not an active government policy, but it is the result of government omission and not implementing its own guidelines,” said Suzannah Phillips, the study’s primary author.
