Protection at the Pub

A recent study published in the International Journal of STD and AIDS and summarized by Great Britain’s Press Association found that nine out of 10 visitors to a sexual health clinic in southern England were also binge drinkers. The study researchers call for condom distribution at clubs and bars throughout the country, The Press Association reports (ukpress.google.com, 12/17).

While the article notes that 32 percent of study participants reported that they were visiting the clinic because they were anxious about STD contraction or pregnancy following one or more alcohol-fueled sexual encounters, it adds that 77 percent had sex with a new partner while intoxicated. A third of them had unprotected sex following a night of binge drinking.
