For the first time, Indonesia’s government is gearing up for National Condom Week, which will kick off on World AIDS Day, December 1. Events will include free condom distribution, a concert, contests and a variety of awareness campaigns (thejakartapost.com, 11/7).
“National Condom Week is expected [to help] change [existing] stigmas about condoms—and to give [the public] an understanding that condoms are a safe contraceptive device,” says Sugiri Syarief, chairman of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board.
The health ministry estimates that between 176,000 and 247,000 people became infected with HIV last year in Indonesia.
"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
