Enclosures: Condoms and a Note

Some women in Nepal’s Pang village have been sending letters to their husbands who work overseas, encouraging them not to have extramarital affairs—and enclosing condoms in the envelopes in case the men decide to anyway (news.yahoo.com, 11/6).

As social workers in the region educate women on sexually transmitted diseases, the women are taking steps to ensure that their husbands do not contract them while they are away.

“As I learned that unsafe relations make a person vulnerable to HIV, I sent a condom along with the letters to my husband,” said Laxmi Sunar.

About 3 million people from Nepal work overseas, sending money home to support their families.
