The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has settled a disability discrimination lawsuit against a company that owns chicken franchise restaurants, according to an EEOC statement. The company violated the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), which covers people living with HIV/AIDS.

In 2013, the EEOC alleged that the general manager of a Popeye’s Chicken & Biscuits in Longview, Texas, refused to hire Noah Crawford after finding out he has HIV. Crawford had years of related experience, including working as a fast food restaurant general manager. The company has agreed to pay $25,000 in relief to Crawford.

In addition, the company will train all managers, area supervisors and human resources professionals on the ADA. The training will include instruction on medically related inquiries and pre-employment inquiries.

The Longview Popeye’s is owned by Famous Chicken of Shreveport LLC, which owns other restaurants in Texas and Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed after attempts to reach a pre-litigation settlement.
