Iowa Professor Resigns After Falsifying HIV Vaccine Research
Dong-Pyou Han, PhD, an assistant professor of biomedical sciences at Iowa State University, has resigned after admitting he tampered with HIV vaccine research, the Des Moines Register reports. The professor added human blood with HIV antibodies to the blood samples from the rabbits used in the research. He wanted to make it seem as if the vaccine was working. The fraudulent results helped his research team get millions of dollars in federal funding. As a result, the Office of Research Integrity at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reached a voluntary exclusion agreement with Han that disqualifies him from federally funded research for three years.
