Is AIDS a Riot?
by Kellee Terrell
Elton seems to thinks so.
Last October, AIDS activist and musician Sir Elton John told GQ writer Chris Heath that his newest film project—an AIDS musical with comedian Ben Stiller—was quite hilarious.
EJ: It’s about a guy on Broadway who is gay, has AIDS and has
to go back and face his wife and kids that he left. It’s very funny.
CH: It [isn’t] sounding funny, so far…
EJ: No, it’s very funny. The premise doesn’t sound funny,
but it is. All right?
While it’s hard to imagine that low CD4 counts, denial and deserted family members could make for a toe-tapping, knee-slapping good time, if anyone can make AIDS amusing, the Rocket Man can.

Think of some previous AIDS films that use humor. Jeffrey. Love! Valour! Compassion! Even Nick's laughing at life and death in It's My Party. Michael Callen laughing at himself as Miss HIV in Zero Patience (his final film screen appearance after Philadelphia). Humor is essential to health and to life.

I just read this story with Sir Elton John. How dare him say something like that when I still can't understand how a gay man can be called a Sir..think about that a moment. Right?
