At his foundation’s annual Enduring Vision fund-raiser in New York City, Sir Elton John said that young people are not taking HIV/AIDS seriously enough, The Press Association reports.

“We are finding that too many young people are not listening to what we are saying,” John said, arriving at the fund-raiser. “It’s a cyclical thing. Every 10 years a new generation comes along and you have to re-educate them.”

The Elton John AIDS Foundation event was the first public appearance for the musician since his recent hospitalization after coming down with the flu. He was also being treated for E. coli infection.

Other celebrities in attendance include former U.S. President Bill Clinton, actress Sharon Stone and current James Bond, Daniel Craig.
