AIDS 101 for Ethiopia’s Media
On April 14, an HIV/AIDS activist in Ethiopia said media outlets in the country need to be more sensitive when reporting on and about people living with HIV, The Daily Monitor/AllAfrica.com reports (allafrica.com, 4/16).
Activist Sonya De Masi spoke at a media workshop at Dembel City Center in Ethiopia’s capital city, Addis Ababa. “Even though the media has so far played [a] vast role in educating the public, it has also at times hurt the psychology of [HIV-positive people],” she said.
The workshop was organized by Intranews Networks and its Local Voices Project, an initiative that aims to improve media coverage of HIV/AIDS-related issues in Ethiopia.
