Aquamid—A New Facial Filler
In an initial study, Aquamid (polyacrylamide hydrogel) injections safely and effectively replaced lost facial fat (another problematic fat-shifting side effect of HIV and its meds). The filler is permanent, with applications done every three weeks until the desired effect is achieved. The FDA has previously approved only two facial fillers—Radiesse and Sculptra—for people with HIV, and both are temporary, requiring repeated touch-ups. With further testing, Aquamid could become the third approved filler, providing a shot of long-lasting benefits for some people living with HIV.
