Thirty thousand anti-rape female condoms lined with jagged rows of teeth-like hooks that attach to a man’s penis during penetration are being distributed for free at the World Cup in South Africa, cnn.com reports. Once lodged, only a doctor can remove them. South African doctor Sonnet Ehlers says she created the Rape-aXe prophylactic to empower women, but her critics say that the device only serves as a constant reminder to women that they are vulnerable. South Africa has one of the highest rates of rape in the world.
