Fish Pedicures Pose HIV Risk
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Health warns that fish pedicures, in which tiny fish nibble flakes of skin off the feet, pose a risk of spreading HIV and hepatitis as well as other infectious diseases, according to the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG). People with skin conditions that cause open wounds can contaminate the water and the fish that absorb the dead cells, said Amin Al Amiri, MD, of the UAE’s health ministry. The UAE advises that fish used for medicinal purposes be kept in tanks with UV sterilizers and automatic water changers. Fish pedicures originated in Turkey as a psoriasis treatment but have become popular at beauty parlors across the world.

I've been POZ since 1992,I use natural herbs & earth's elements to help heal my body when I'm weak & to prevent me from getting sick.By the grace of God I was saved from dying of appendicist 3 days exploded & didn't know what it was.I used to have Hep.C, I had faith by using Copper pennies & Magnets every night front & back of my liver. My doctor says they can't find Hep.C nor ever existed.Blood tests detects every sickness we ever had.I have had 3 accidents down my spine & leg & Im able to walk.

Fish cannot carry HIV, nor can the virus live in water. So how does this pose a risk??? Unless two people are receiving the treatment at the same time in the same small amount of concentrated water, both with open wounds on their extremities and one with HIV, bleeding profusely...even then the risk would be small and very hard to measure. Come on people!

Complete Third World misinformation based on pseudo-science.

Sounds to me like one of those "theoretical risks" that will never be shown to have any scientific merit; sounds disgusting, but hardly an activity that could realistically spread HIV.

Where did this Dr. Al Amiri get his training?
These are the same scare tactics used by ignorant or malevolent fools to further stigmatize and, often, criminalize HIV and those living with it.
There are a lot of things you can catch from impure water, but HIV isn't one of them. If they are actually serious about this, they should show me the science proving it.
This is a disservice to the uneducated who might actually believe this crap.
