French-Speaking Countries Urged to Increase HIV Funding
A new report from UNAIDS shows progress against HIV/AIDS among French-speaking countries, but also calls on them to increase funding, according to a UNAIDS statement. Results vary widely among member states of the International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF). In key areas such as preventing new HIV cases among children and scaling up treatment, progress is lagging especially among IOF countries in sub-Saharan Africa. UNAIDS urges high-income francophone countries to take the lead in increasing funding, but also proposes ways for low- and middle-income IOF countries to scale up their domestic spending.
