Angry Birds Honors Freddie Mercury for AIDS Fundraiser
The creators of the mobile game Angry Birds have made an animated video of one of its birds dressed up as Freddie Mercury to support HIV research, according to a statement from The Mercury Phoenix Trust, the AIDS charity founded by the surviving members of Queen. The video depicts a yellow triangle-shaped bird dressed as Mercury with a mustache and chest hair wearing a crown and bicycling to the Queen song “Bicycle Race.” It was created in honor of Freddie for a Day, an annual fundraiser for the charity, in which participants dress up as Mercury on his birthday every September 5. A portion of the proceeds from a limited edition Mercury Angry Birds T-shirt will go to the charity. Mercury died of AIDS in 1991.
