The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will stop funding HIV/AIDS programs in India after 2012, IBN Live reports. As a result, India will lose almost $338 million after 2012. Bill Gates cited a decline in HIV/AIDS rates in the country as the reason for ending financial support of prevention programs such as the Avahan initiative, which reached sex workers, men who have sex with men and transgender people. Prevention work will be taken over by the National AIDS Control Organization. The foundation plans to redirect its funds toward other public health programs in India.
