The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has recently announced that 12 grantees will receive another round of funding as part of Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE), a tier-based initiative supporting unorthodox research and ideas that address persistent health and development challenges. The grantees’ projects seek bold new prevention and treatment technologies to fight HIV, malaria and pneumonia worldwide, including research into vaccines, better methods to test blood, and a look at how gut bacteria fight HIV.
