U.S. Gives $3M to HIV and Gender-Based Violence Programs
A joint initiative by two areas of the U.S. Department of State—the Office of Global Women’s Issues and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)—will give $3 million to 35 grassroots groups in 28 countries for programs responding to gender-based violence with a link to HIV prevention, treatment and care, according to a statement by the State Department. One in three women worldwide will experience gender-based violence, which increases their vulnerability to HIV.
