Republican presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani vowed to continue America’s commitment to fighting global AIDS this past World AIDS Day, December 1. But in an article published in The Boston Globe, Charles King, head of the New York AIDS service organization Housing Works, says that Giuliani did little to assist those living with the virus during his eight years as New York City’s mayor (boston.com, 12/7).
King calls Giuliani’s World AIDS Day statements “gross hypocrisy,” adding, “We had to litigate against him from the beginning of his term to force his administration to follow New York law with regard to the provision of services and care to persons with AIDS and HIV.”
The Globe reports that Giuliani canceled Housing Works’ city contracts while in office because of the organization’s criticism of the mayor’s response to the New York epidemic. Giuliani’s presidential campaign spokesperson, however, says in the article that the mayor’s support for AIDS-related services remained consistent throughout his tenure.

"I'm HIV positive and diabetic (as well as have high cholesterol) and some of my meds specify taking them with 'high fat foods' which I have to do twice a day. I've eaten as healthy as possible, but when it comes to high fat foods, I am in a quandary...about what to eat sometimes..."
