President Obama Approves More Than $1 Billion for Global Fund

President Barack Obama approved $1.05 billion for the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. This commitment represents the largest single-year contribution to the fund from a single country.

“Thanks to President Obama’s leadership, and the bipartisan support of the U.S. Congress, the United States has made a historic contribution in support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria,” John Tedstrom, president and CEO of the Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria (GBC), said in a statement about Obama’s December 18 announcement. The GBC—comprised of corporate leaders from around the world—represents the private sector of the Global Fund.

“The $1.05 billion commitment will help save lives and strengthen families and communities in hard-hit regions,” Tedstrom continued. “The private sector commends America’s leaders for their remarkable dedication, and looks forward to increasing corporate support and engagement with the Global Fund in 2010 and beyond.”

This is GREAT the need is there. As a HIV+ person in the US I'm happy we can help others in the world. BUT WAIT WE ALSO need to add funds to the US fight on HIV/AIDs and its prevention. To break the stigma. Let match half what we give to the Worlds effort. Help the US. It's time for HIV+ people to stand up and fight to END THE SIGMA Pozitive Perspectives Inc a support group I founded has a motto "Pozitive does not have to be a negative"
