God’s Love We Deliver Launches $25M Home Expansion Campaign
God’s Love We Deliver, a New York City–based nonprofit that brings meals to people living with HIV/AIDS and other illnesses, is publicly launching a $25 million capital campaign, Crains New York reports. The money will be used to more than double the size of its home in SoHo. Officials at the charity—which began the private phase of the campaign in late 2010 amid the economic downturn—said demand for its services has grown so much that it could not continue to meet them with its current space constrictions. The number of meals the nonprofit cooked and delivered reached more than 1 million for the fiscal year that ended June 30—up 50 percent over the past five years. This fiscal year, demand is already up 10 percent over the same period a year earlier. The spike in clients comes from both the bad economy and the nonprofit’s efforts to expand its mission from serving only people with HIV/AIDS to those with other illnesses. Of the 4,180 clients God’s Love served in 2011, 21 percent had cancer.
