"Yes" to Gay Blood Ban
A setback for both LGBT and HIV/AIDS advocates: The U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Advisory Committee on Blood
Safety and Availability voted 9 to 6 in favor of keeping the federal
government’s current ban on blood donations from men who have sex with men, the
Washington Times reports. The
committee’s nonbinding recommendations will be sent to the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), which will ultimately decide the issue.
