The Jury is Out

As summer winds down and fall court cases heat up, a jury summons may be headed toward your mailbox. Legal experts tell POZ that healthy positive people shouldn’t shirk jury duty. But Bebe Anderson, HIV project director at Lambda Legal, says that a doctor’s note—update it each year—will likely excuse the less robust. It should say that serving could hamper your med regimen and cause stress—but it needn’t mention HIV. Regulations vary by court and state; contact your jury office.
