An HIV-positive soldier at North Carolina’s Fort Bragg may be court martialed following a recommendation made last week by an investigating officer. Private First Class Johnny Dalton, 25, was accused last month of knowingly spreading HIV to a 17-year-old boy he had met in an online chat room. The relationship he had with the boy continued for more than two months after Dalton had signed a written order in which he agreed not to have unprotected sex and to notify a partner of his HIV status if doing so.
Dalton has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and the use of marijuana, and remains in military custody. Leaders in the 82nd Airborne Division will put last week’s recommendation into consideration as they move forward with the case.
