CDC: Most HIV-Positive People Are Metropolitan

The majority of Americans with HIV live in large cities, with 10 states accounting for 71 percent of cases in the United States, Reuters reports.

According to new data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 85 percent of all HIV cases were clustered in large U.S. metropolitan areas, up from 82 percent in 2007.

The CDC also reveals that federal funding to fight HIV totaled $23.3 billion last year, with 50 percent going to treatment and care for positive people in the United States, 12 percent to research, 10 percent to financial and housing assistance, 4 percent to prevention and 25 percent to overseas aid.
