Veteran Is a Possible Source of HIV Exposure in VA Hospital Errors

Ron Hereford, an HIV-positive veteran, could be the possible source of HIV infections at hospitals administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), WMSV.com reports.

Thousands of veterans were alerted by the VA that they might have been exposed to HIV and hepatitis as a result of errors in sterilizing endoscopy equipment. Hereford had a colonoscopy in 2003 at a VA hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee—one of the locations involved in this incident.

According to the article, Hereford contacted Mike Sheppard, an attorney who represents about 60 veterans who were affected. Sheppard said that Hereford could be the source, but that he currently represents another man who could also be the source.
