$2.4 Million for NYC Housing
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $2.4 million to two firms in New York City to provide housing for people living with HIV/AIDS.
On October 10, the Church Avenue Merchants Block Association Inc. in Brooklyn received $1.3 to provide inexpensive housing and utility-payment assistance to positive people, those with mental illness and the chemically dependent.
Meanwhile, the Fortune Society Inc. in Manhattan received $1.1 million to house people living with HIV/AIDS who were recently released from prison or jail and have histories of substance abuse.
These grants are just a small part of a combined $286 million to be distributed by the HUD this year.
