Illinois Repeals HIV School Notification Law
A longstanding mandate in Illinois for health officials to notify school principals about students living with HIV has been repealed, Windy City Times reports. Advocates had pushed for years for its repeal because they claimed the law contributed to stigma and discrimination. Principals had the right to share the HIV status of a student with teachers and staff. Repeal of the law removes that information from permanent school records.
