HIV Help for Indonesia’s Homeless Children
The Indonesian government should direct more HIV/AIDS prevention initiatives toward homeless children, according to the secretary general of the National Commission for Child Protection.
One HIV/AIDS foundation reported recently that more than 90 percent of drug-using homeless children tested in Jakarta were found to be HIV positive.
The secretary general, Arist Merdeka Sirait, said homeless children are more vulnerable to the disease because they lack information about their risks and have a high rates of injection drug use.
