Australia, home to last year’s International AIDS Conference, has one of the best records globally for containing AIDS: As of 2006, HIV prevalance in adults was 0.1 percent. Rather than wasting time and money trying to persuade people not to have sex or do drugs, the country put its resources into telling Aussies how to do these things safely. Witness cool campaigns like this grafitti wall at Bondi Beach, Syndey’s surfing mecca. As people hit the sand, they must pass this colorful reminder to use condoms, which offers a phone number for testing-site locations and other info. Quick: Someone call the taggers in Baltimore and DC and get them spray-painting.
