Mobster's Son Reveals HIV Status in Court
File this under “odd HIV criminalization tales”: John
Franzese, an underboss in the Colombo organized crime family, is on trial for
extorting adult clubs in New York City for protection money, the Daily News reports. His son, John Jr., testified against him.
Under cross-examination, the defense lawyer got John Jr. to reveal he was HIV
positive. The defense lawyer then asked John Jr. if he had told his brother he
had unprotected sex with women. The prosecutors objected, and the judge told
John Jr. not to answer. The brother later told reporters that John Jr. “didn’t
confide that in me.”
