So many people are getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Kane County, Illinois, that the county may need an additional $55,000 to meet the demand,
the Daily Herald reports.

Kane County Health Department executive director Paul Kuehnert said testing access is beneficial because it bring awareness to the spread of diseases such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV/AIDS. However, he added, the extra cost attached to the new demand means the county will reconsider how it does testing.

According to the article, while demand for testing has increased, the rate of reported STI cases has remained relatively stable compared to 2008.
