Nearly two decades after Keith Haring’s death due to AIDS-related complications at the age of 31, his friends and admirers remember the prolific artist in the documentary The Universe of Keith Haring.

Reviewed by The New York Times as a “loving if routine primer on this bright young man from Kutztown, Pa., who moved to New York to study art and paint the town red,” the film features interviews and archival footage of Grace Jones, Madonna, Yoko Ono, David LaChapelle, Andy Warhol and Fab 5 Freddy, among others. Audio excerpts from original interviews with Haring are also included within the documentary.

The Universe of Keith Haring is showing for a limited time in select U.S. theaters.
