Effective August 19, Kenneth G. Castro, MD, will serve as acting director of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to a CDC statement. Most recently, he was assistant surgeon general and director of the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination at the CDC. Castro has decades of extensive experience dealing with HIV/AIDS. He is taking over for Jonathan Mermin, MD, MPH, who recently became director of the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention at the CDC.
